The ARK opened in the Spring of 2005, after many years of dreaming and planning!  We have a beautiful sand arena and mounting ramp, to assisted disabled riders to get on safely.  On staff are three wonderful horses: Hadrjan, a grey Arabian gelding, Joey, a Palomino Paint horse and C.C., a Chestnut Morgan mare. 

Staff and horses at the ARK do provide assisted riding for some who need only the recreational aspects of horsemanship.  What the ARK was really developed for was HIPPOTHERAPY.

Hippo (Greek for "horse") therapy, is a form of PHYSICAL THERAPY using the horse as a treatment tool.  The steady, rhythmic three-dimensional movement of the horse gives an input to the patient that is unsurpassed in its effect on balance, coordination, sensory issues and function!

Hippotherapy is a skilled, medical treatment.  Sessions are conducted by a licensed physical, occupational or speech therapist.  It is just like any outpatient therapy program.  The only difference is that we use the horse as our treatment tool rather than therapy balls, machines or weights.  The goals that are set for you in the Hippotherapy program are integrated with the goals set by your primary therapist and related to functional outcomes. 

NEWS FLASH!   IN AUGUST, 2007, CATHY SUCCESSFULLY PASSED THE EXAMINATION FOR CERTIFICATION AS A HIPPOTHERAPY CLINICAL SPECIALIST!  THIS ACHIEVEMENT REPRESENTS A HIGHT LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE IN THE PRACTICE OF HIPPOTHERAPY!

 New at The ARK...

     NOAH!

 Noah has found the ARK!

Noah is an Equicizer developed by former jockey, Frank Lovato.  Noah was lovingly hand-made in his shop in Ohio and traveled all the way here in a snow storm!   Equicizers are used by jockeys for conditioning and rehab.  They are also being used by therapeutic riding programs across the country.  Noah is the first in this area.  Many of our riders use him to warm up and some use him exclusively to build the strength and confidence for Hippotherapy!
