Classes offered at Meridian Physical Therapy include Yoga (for the inflexible), Back School and Senior Exercise.

Yoga (for the inflexible)
Our Yoga class is offered in a comfortable, non-threatening and non-competitive environment.  Each student is taught how to adapt the poses to their bodies.  We do not try and stretch the body beyond what is do-able to try and reach the ultimate in correct yoga pose.  We use props and supports of blocks, straps and sometimes chairs to aid in the performance of each particular pose.  Each student is taught individually how they can use props and soon they are able to see their bodies change and progress in the type of prop used – or use of a prop at all. 
The progress is exciting to chart as our bodies change and become stronger and more flexible. 

Back School
Eighty-five percent of the population at some point or another will hurt their backs!  (That means only fifteen percent will get away scott-free…not many if you think about it!).  The most important thing that we can learn is how to be SMART, FLEXIBLE and STRONG! 

SMART enough to know how to take care of our backs and the proper way to lift, push, pull, reach, sit, stand and walk! 

FLEXIBLE enough to perform the proper body mechanics for all tasks…and

STRONG enough to be able to pull it off!

Back School will teach you some simple stretches and exercises to maintain your flexibility and strength.  You will learn about how your back is constructed and how it operates in order to fully understand how to care for it.  You will also be trained in the proper body mechanics for all tasks for work or daily living.

Senior Exercise
One of the greatest fears we have as Seniors is that of falling!
In our Senior Exercise class we concentrate on strength, flexibility and balance/coordination to help us avoid the possibility of taking a spill!  The class includes gentle aerobic-type warm-up exercise, some light weights and a mat program.  We use single-leg standing balance to chart our progress and encourage each other on!  The class is fun and we all laugh a lot!  I once heard a 100 year old man interviewed.  He was asked for the secret of longevity. 
He said  “Keep breathing!”  I would like to add to that and say: “Keep moving!”
